The North American Aviation Mustang was developed at the request of the British during WW2 who needed a fighter that would meet European standards.
Initially the aircraft lacked the high performance required to be a great all round fighter, however when the airframe was mated to the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine the Mustang became one of the greatest fighters of all time!
Over the course of the war, the P-51 developed a reputation as an extremely capable fighter/escort/bomber.
In fact, in 1944, a key strategic change in Allied air strategy sent Mustang fighters into combat ahead of bombing raids to directly engage with the Luftwaffe fighters, this tactic truly exploited the capability of the Mustang. In just over a week, the Luftwaffe lost 17% of its fighter pilots.
The P-51 continued to serve with some air forces around the world until the early 80's and today it is still a major player with air racers and a star attraction at air shows around the world.

Many years of experience have gone into developing this airplane to achieve a stunning scale appearance while delivering exhilarating high-performance flight characteristics. When not flying, Cripes A Mighty 3rd can show off its incredible detail using the included static display stand.
Cripes A’ Mighty 3rd is a well-recognized and exciting color scheme that pays faithful tribute to one of the highest scoring American aces, Major George E. Preddy. Its unique foam construction delivers intricate detail with no weight penalty. Even inside the cockpit has been given scale attention rivaling that of much larger models.
Swapping out the included 450mAh 3S 11.1V 30C LiPo battery is simple thanks to the magnetic canopy hatch. Plastic leading edges of the radiator and carburetor scoops reduce the chance of wear and tear to the underside of the airplane during belly landings.
